Androgenic and Spermatogenic Effects of Methanolic Root Extract of Waltheria indica (linn) in Male Wistar Rats

Waltheria indica is a common shrub found in many parts of Northern Nigeria for the management several diseases. Although ability to treat infertility, erectile dysfunction and impotency male has been reported ethno-medicine, there no scientific study verify its action on androgens spermatogenic parameters. This seeks evaluate effect methanolic root extract spermatogenesis albino rats. Rats were grouped into four: 1, 2, 3 4 where 1(the control) received orally 1mL normal saline. Groups daily basis, graded doses 50, 100 200 mg/kg body weight plant extract, respectively, 40 days. Administration resulted enhanced levels testosterone, follicular stimulating hormone, luteinizing sperm count, viability, mobility, testicular gamma glutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase cholesterol.
